Welcome to Naprapathy
at Natural Earth |
Naprapathy is a form of natural therapy that aims
to promote natural health- it is considered an alternative and natural
treatment used to enhance a happy and healthy lifestyle.
Napapathy
is an alternative therapy to chiropractic, founded in the early
1900s by Oakley Smith who called his manual medical technique, napapathy.
Chiropractors focus on the spine. Naprapaths emphasize the ligaments.
The Czech word "naprapravit" (to correct) and the Greek
word "pathos" (suffering) combine to form the word Naprapathy.
The oldest and largest naprapathic school is the National College
of Naprapathic Medicine, in Chicago. The NCNM offers a 36 month,
residential, evening program which costs about a third of the tuition
at a chiropractic school, and has fewer prerequisites. Graduates
receive a DN or Doctor of Naprapathy degree.
Naprapathy
is a system of manually applied movements both passive and active
designed to bring motion with consequent release of tension into
abnormally tensed and rigid ligaments muscles and articulations
of the human body. These tissues and structures are normally moveable,
flexible and resilient. Naprapathy contends that a favorable internal
environment is essential for growth, development and maintenance
of normal health. Naprapathy's procedures assist the body to maintain
this favorable internal environment by releasing points of tension
and by the use of rational dietary and hygienic measures.
Naprapathy
also contends that proper spinal alignment can be maintained with
body movement exercises designed to reafferentate the body and mind.
Reafferentation exercises are those exercises that bring about a
somatic stimulus from muscle to spinothalamic tracts within the
spinal cord, and the thalamus that regulates so many of our bodily
functions. In addition to the mechanics of the body, the physiology
of the body plays an integral part in the healing process.
