Healing Therapy is the term given to a system of healing involving the placing of the healers hands on or near the recipients body. The aim is to restore balance in the energy field which surrounds and flows through the patient. This energy may be regarded as a Bio-energy field relating to the 'Chakra' points on the human body, this is the view taken by followers of the eastern tradition of healing. Western spiritual healers view this energy to be nothing less than an extension of the spirit or soul.

Whichever view the particular healer holds, the process is very similar. The healer will move his or her hands over and/or around the patients body, claiming to be able to sense any blockages or imbalance in the energy patterns surrounding the subject. Blockages or maladjustments thus detected can be corrected with a flow of energy passing from the healer to the healed.

In the eastern tradition the corrective energy applied is part of the healers own Bio-energy field re-directed toward the patient through one of the 'Chakras' or energy points which this tradition holds are located within the human body.

In the western spiritual system the necessary healing energy comes from a less easily identified source, some believing the energy to be part of there own spiritual energy others believing they are channeling the divine healing will direct from the almighty to the needy.

Distance healing is similar to contact healing in its basic philosophical approach but with the added believe that all things relate, one way or another, to all other things pointing to modern quantum physics to support this view. Once this view is accepted then healing can be performed over any physical distance as distance is not a barrier to the spirit.

Healing Touch is an energy (biofield) therapy that encompasses a group of non-invasive techniques that utilize the hands to clear, energize, and balance the human and environmental energy fields. The American Holistic Nurses' Association and Healing Touch International endorse the Healing Touch educational program. The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) identifies an Energy Field Disturbance as a disruption in the flow of energy surrounding a person's being that results in a disharmony of the body, mind, and/or spirit. Healing Touch interventions may be used to restore, energize, and balance an energy field disturbance.

All healing is basically self-healing. A physician can set two bone fragments in place, but the body itself finally heals the split; the physician simply directs and facilitates the process. Healing Touch is a different and often complementary mode of facilitating the healing process, but functions from an energy perspective rather than only a physical one. The Healing Touch Practitioner re-aligns the energy flow, re-activating the mind/body/spirit connection to eliminate blockages to self-healing.
