Things to look out for when purchasing.

There are many different brands of Colloidal Silver around at the moment, more in the USA than here in the UK. Some products are more inferior than others. Please note the following considerations before purchasing any Colloidal Silver.

Always purchase Colloidal Silver produced by the electro-colloidal process.

Make sure that distilled water or Reverse Osmosis/De-ionized water is used. Either is suitable. We personally believe that RO/DI water is better as you have total control over the quality of water you produce.

The ideal colour should be clear or very slightly golden yellow. Darker colours indicate particles that are too large. A good indication of the quality of Colloidal Silver is the colour. As the size of the particles increase the colours can be yellow, brown, red, gray or even black. Do not purchase this type of Colloidal Silver.

Do not buy Colloidal Silver if it lists any other elements other than silver, or contains a stabilizer.

Do not buy if the directions say you need to shake the bottle. This indicates that the product is inferior.

If the product requires you to refrigerate it, they may mean that there is something else added to thr Colloidal Silver that needs refrigeration.

Ideally Colloidal Silver should be stored in amber glass bottles to protect it from the UV rays of the sun. Plastic bottles can build up an electrical charge that could neutralise the silver particles in inferior Colloidal Silver. Superior Colloidal Silver shouldn't be affected in this way.

Remember higher PPM doesn't mean the product is of higher quality. Tests show that Colloidal Silver of around 3-10 PPM is just as effective as Colloidal Silver of 500 PPM and more. All you will be doing is spending much more money to buy higher PPMs without getting any additional benefit.

With many of today's health problems stemming from foreign parasites such as viruses, bacteria and protozoa, can colloidal silver provide adequate defense against such bodily invasion?

Colloidal silver is usually taken in a liquid form and is made in distilled water with microscopic silver particles suspended in it. The silver is put into the liquid by way of a colloidal silver generator, which is basically 2 pure silver rods connected to a 20-21 volt source. It is important to make sure the silver is made with distilled water and this voltage as it will ensure a small particle size. Some people add salt to the water, but due to the increase in conductivity of the water, the particle size is too large, and the silver can become lodged in the body (called argyria).

Colloidal silver has some very useful properties, in that it can help the body defend itself against bacteria, fungus and parasites. It works by deactivating an oxygen carrying enzyme which the single celled organisms use to 'breath', which in turn suffocates the organism. In the case of parasites, it may not kill the parasite itself, but it will kill all the eggs, which behave as single celled organisms. Thus when the life cycle of the parasite itself is over, there will be no more to take it's place.

The size of the silver particles in the water is about .001 to .005 microns in diameter. This is smaller than any atom, and therefore able to move freely through a persons body. The body does not recognize the silver as foreign, so the immune system does not bother it.

When first taking colloidal silver a person may experience flu like symptoms for a few days. This is due to the cleansing effect of the silver. As the unfriendly organisms die off they can create some toxicity in the body as they are removed. This is perfectly natural and the symptoms will subside after a while, depending on the person’s state.

Colloidal silver is useful to include daily as a part of ones health regime as it provides like a second immune system, yet doesn't weaken a person’s immune system like other antibiotics, and also doesn't seem to upset the friendly bacteria in the colon. Of course taking colloidal silver is useful, but if a person doesn't already have a good vegetarian diet, the body will constantly be battling with toxins and unfriendly organisms anyway. It is also important to make sure the acid/alkaline balance of the body is correct by eating the right amount of the right types of foods, even for vegetarians. Colloidal silver is a product with a potent effect against pathogenic micro-organisms. It is used as a healing agent, antiseptic, and a deodorant. For mass production, there are commercially available generators, however on a smaller scale, they can be created by an individual with easily available products.

A drinkable form of the colloidal solution is made by diffusing the silver ions in water by passing a dc electric current through two silver electrodes dipped inside water. The simplest requirements include a battery project case with battery holders and clip, standard 4 mm banana plugs used on most testing equipment, matching sockets, an LED to indicate the current flow, and a resistor to allow the desired current. The resistors can range from 1K to 10K, allowing a current of 1mA to 10mA. The most important component is the 3mm silver wire used to generate high-quality silver in the suspension. This is free from impurities, unlike the sterling silver.

The apparatus is assembled completely and tested for the flow of proper current. The silver wires are kept immersed in water. The generation of the silver solution is an instant process. Since silver is a light-sensitive metal, the entire process is conducted in a dimly lit room, preferably a dark room. Once the process is complete, the wires are cleaned with soft paper towels to keep them scratch free. Care is taken to see that the deposits of silver oxide are removed after each use.

Evaluation of the purity of the prepared colloidal solution can be done by examining the back-scatter of a laser beam. The beam is directed to pass through the solution and viewed at an angle of 15o. This is the Tyndall or the Raleigh effect. However, it is considered a less reliable method compared to microbiological tests. The preparation is stored in non-conductive, dark, opaque, plastic containers and never in metal containers.

Precautions for making silver colloid include the use of distilled water and fine-quality silver electrodes/wires. Tap water is suitable for topical sprays or for use in plants. Saline is added to improve the conductivity, however it is advisable to refrain from using salt as it affects the quality. A pinch of baking soda is used for the generation of the first set; subsequently a small sample of the silver colloid is used as a “starter” to initiate the conductivity.

Generation of a silver colloid is a fairly simple process. To make matters easier, numerous silver colloid generator kits are available on the market.
